Farm solar across Scotland: the regions we cover

Quick answer

Where in Scotland do you install farm solar?

We design farm, business and rural solar across mainland Scotland and install through MCS-certified partners. We serve farms across Scotland. The twelve regions below each have their own page explaining typical farm types, suitable roofs and ground, the local network operator and the loads that make solar worthwhile there.

Choose your region

Scottish farming changes a lot from one region to the next: grain and pigs in the north-east, soft fruit in Tayside, dairy in the south-west and hill sheep in the Borders. Pick your area for local guidance.

What stays the same everywhere

Wherever your farm is, the process is the same. We start from your electricity bills, check roofs and structure, confirm planning, manage the grid application and give you a fixed written quote before any work starts. For farms and commercial customers, interest-free credit up to £30,000, subject to status.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover farms outside the areas listed?

Yes. The twelve regions here are where most of our farm enquiries come from, but we design systems for farms, businesses and rural properties anywhere in mainland Scotland. Get in touch with your postcode and we will confirm.

Why does my region matter for a solar quote?

Region affects the network operator you apply to, how much export capacity is available, wind and snow loads, planning rules in National Parks, and the type of farm buildings you are likely to have. Each area page covers those local points.

Which network operator will my farm apply to?

SSEN Distribution covers the north of Scotland, including the Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus and most of Perthshire. SP Energy Networks covers central and southern Scotland, including Fife, the Lothians, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, the Borders and Dumfries & Galloway.

Every project is assessed individually and you receive a fixed written quote before any work starts. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
